Module 2: Strategic responses to violence

PLEASE NOTE: THESE SESSIONS HAVE BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

The violence through which the modern world is created is based on and reinforces the inherently violent view, structure and practices that some people are (more) human (than others). In addition, the services of national political parties and state institutions of liberal democracies are presented as the only way to remedy injustice. Not suprisingly however, a reliance on the colonial state does more damage than good as state sponsored or provided services for non-white people are disappointing at best, and at worst lead to the killings of our people.

In this module, initially starting with 3 sessions, we aim to come to an understanding of violence, its different manifestations, its actors and to what extend we can deal with what forms of violence in our everyday lives.

The approach of the sessions will be participant led and rejecting state definitions of violence. We also aim to critically examine how dealing with violence in our lives in London relates to the violence produced by this colonial metropole.

Building on our individual and shared experiences, we will develop our own practical knowledge and skills to deal with violence in our own lives and contexts.

Session 1 will be held on Thursday 1 October. PLEASE NOTE: THESE SESSIONS HAVE BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Those who participated in Module 0 and other sessions will be invited to partake.

Places are limited, black and other non-white people have priority.
